Any newly built commercial buildings require a fire alarm system to be installed. It is best to ask your architect or local fire department if one will be required.
Any newly installed fire alarm system must be monitored by a UL listed monitoring station. Some systems that were installed many years ago may not currently be monitored and will only be required if their local fire department necessitates it.
Yes. All fire alarm systems are to be inspected annually by a registered Fire Alarm Company. All testing is to comply with NFPA 72 requirements.
The simple answer is no. You should do regular testing yourself of your home smoke detectors and replace them every 10 years. You can have your home smoke detectors monitored if you wish for additional protection. This is accomplished by connecting them to your residential burglar alarm system.
